Psychologist intensify work alongside victims of eruption on Fogo

A group of seven psychologists will arrive on the island of Fogo in the coming days to reinforce the staff providing psych-social guidance and accompaniment to the families left homeless by the volcanic eruption in Chã das Caldeiras. The psychologists will work with their colleagues from the local Health Delegation and the Cape Verdean Institute of Children and Adolescents (ICCA), which are currently providing assistance on the ground. The arrival of the psychologists will allow those who have been in the field since the beginning of the eruption to enjoy much-needed rest. The recruitment of the psychologists was the result of cooperation between the United Nations System and the Ministry of Youth, Employment and the Development of Human Resources, according to information provided by Marisa Sagna of the United Nation’s Children’ns Fund, UNICEF. Marisa Sagna, who is currently on Fogo to undertake a survey of the educational situation and the interest on the part of teachers in taking courses aimed at acquiring knowledge on how to deal with children in this context.
